I just got the new Pocket POD from Germany and I'm trying. In stores in Italy has not yet arrived, I bought it sight unseen, so I'm sure the quality of the product.
no doubt about it, it's unbelievable placed next to big brother Pod 2, since they provide a sound level almost the same effects.
Alright, they lack the balanced outputs, it lacks the power to the pedals, there is no midi, but there is everything you need to perform tests or at home on headphones.
Once again the amazing Line 6. I would naturally say that Line 6 is the Apple of the guitarists, but think about it in reality there is no analogy except the fact that it is winning products, but here there is no strategic marketing medium, not the products are status symbols but poor for the poor, there is only so much concrete in a box a few inches. There's everything you need, nothing amaze your friends, just a great sound in a humble plastic box not too pleasant to the touch.
the Line 6 have only reinvented the product: in the early 90's turned the zoom 9002, to be attached to the shoulder strap of the guitar. Same size. Same philosophy. Of course, never left the legendary sound of POD 2, but mosquito nets distortions like many multi-effects era. But the substance was all over: on the contrary more than the pocket pod, such as rechargeable battery, the power series, and two remote control options, from a stick to the guitar, the other a classic pedal for compact size. Now that I'm retiring my 9002 (the pocked pod will take its place on my desk) I realize how information technology and electronics have made for musicians "string". Zoom 9002 cost a million pounds at the time, with inflation and soaring prices, today would be around 1000 €. The pocket pod is costing only € 99.
has a tiny display, much to see the name of the patch, a few keys, but just to edit the sounds just plug it in a PC via USB and you're done (no drivers and free software downloaded from the website line6.com). Smarter than the Line 6 Pod took the circuitry of the two, now old but still in production and very good, probably with the design costs largely depreciated, have miniaturized by removing the unnecessary things and then reinstatolato in a smaller box, the same shape and color of his grandfather Pod 2.
Result: nothing like the competition and even less at that price.

Addendum 8/12/2007: I do not understand why line 6 distributes software other than the pocket pod universal line 6 edit. To copy the sounds from POD 2.0 the pocket pod I had to connect both devices to the PC and copy the parameters to be visually screens. The parameters are virtually identical, they just changed its name to some cash and amplifier emulation, but practically there is a match of 99%. In terms of sound but a few surprises: the "pasta" sound is the same, showing that apparently was recycled to the circuitry of the pod. I have just a little ' not sure about the reverb, which has a dough seems too digital and sometimes go into crisis, as if the equipment was failing cpu (they feel the "halo" sound like "bubbles", as if the sound was strokes produced 8-bit!). Even at the level of cash emulations I have not found a match 100% with the pod 2.0, there are obvious differences such as the sound emulations 4x12, POD 2.0 sounds a bit 'more "spontaneous", the pocket pod slightly mixed . I think there is a difference on the D / A converters, although I can not find confirmation techniques.
